Ponman Movie Review - Unveiling the Power of Resilience

This film provides a distinctive insight into the dowry system and its implications. Set in coastline of Kollam district, it narrates the story of a gold lending agent, played by Basil J. His main job is to provide support for families by offering initial gold coverage for marriages.


With extensive experience, his career is exemplary, and he upholds an impeccable reputation among financiers. However, a new challenge arise when a standard give and take transaction takes an unfortunate turn. The film focuses on his efforts to resolve the situation.


Basil offers a nuanced performance as a morally complex character, adeptly balancing charm, selfishness, and vulnerability. His depiction of a man with a strong moral compass yet prone to weakness is both relatable and endearing. One of the best i have seen from him so far. The supporting cast is equally good and there is ample of amount of tension in the story to keep you hooked.


Ponman is a captivating and touching film, distinguished by its relatable characters and authentic portrayal of life's truths. The story unfolds with a well-paced, concise script. With a runtime of only two hours, this film is both engaging and uncompromising. It subtly combines humor and philosophy without being preachy, making it a worthwhile watch. The final line of the movie encapsulates its essence, even though the film never directly concentrated on that aspect.
