Paatal Lok S02 Review - A densely packed drama

Writer's picture: VenkiVenki

S01's immense success stemmed from its powerful blend of narrative structure, outstanding performances, and the world it crafted. Creating a sequel that lives up to the original is always challenging. However, Sudip Sharma's exceptional writing shines once more, this time set against a politically charged backdrop.

The show begins with two separate cases: a missing laborer case handled by Hathi Ram and a high-profile political case managed by his former boss Ansari. As the episodes progress, a connection emerges, making it essential for the two to collaborate. The story masterfully intertwines these two unrelated investigations with several emotionally engaging episodes.

The portrayal of political complexities and state machinery is executed with sensitivity and a touch of elegance. It's intricate, and the conflicts are approached with nuance. As you watch, you become absorbed and involved, at times feeling deeply integrated into their world.

What I missed was a character like Hathoda Tyagi. It's not the thrill ride that S01 was, but it's definitely worth watching with bit of patience and highly recommended. Paatal Lok Season 2 is a compelling continuation of the story, delivering a dense and thought-provoking drama that echoes current societal issues.

In the final episode aptly named The Good Samaritan , a local police officer delivers a line: "My Land, My People, They need hope and They deserve hope." This beautifully encapsulates one side of the investigation and the rationale for moving forward. Ultimately, the question arises: isn't thriving better than merely surviving?

Verdict - 4/5(Another captivating mystery)
