An offbeat film running in theater for more than one week is a very rarity. I was surprised to see a house full theater on the second week of the film. In our modern culture where directors are running behind blockbuster tags with huge promotions and spending crores, some directors are not concerned about what people may think or commercial success – they make movies for themselves. The concept of having only actor seen on screen with 10 voice over characters without appearing on screen is very well executed by Parthiban. To my surprise (he himself tells he is not a good actor), Parthiban did a decent job of bringing out complexities involved in relationships in a convincing way. From silence to capturing minute details of surroundings, Oscar-winner Resul Pookutty did an excellent job in sound design complimenting the movie theme superbly. In the end our heart goes out to Masilamani (Parthiban ), you feel his pain and frustration, but the vein of humor that extends through the film is what makes it stand apart. The murder suspect interrogation within the four walls of a police station is well worth 2 hours of your time. Oththa Seruppu Size 7 has its share of drawbacks, mainly though its run time is 2 hours, its not engaging enough from start to finish. His theater style acting may not appeal for many and some dramatic scenes were just over the top. But that should not stand in the way for us to indulge in our cinephile tendencies. Its a well deserved attempt with a surprising climax.
Verdict - 3.5/5(Parthibhan Kanavu)
