Sports dramas are tricky to handle as most of them follow a template or a fixed pattern with predictable narration. This is a fine example of an experiment done the right way. Tamizharasan Pachamuthu latest sports drama is a finely crafted, nuanced tale of cricket.
I don't have words to express the sense of nostalgia this has evoked, as i have lived in a similar settings when it comes to playing cricket. More than cricket itself, the movie brought several key messages from ego tussle to caste divide into the mix. The village setup, the commentary and humorous verbal spats at each others team was really a fun to watch.
The director beautifully injects the conflict of love, cricket , family dilemma and we will be eager to see how the inevitable things are going to shape up. The BGM resonated well with the story arch. Barring few songs and some MIL sentiments, this one is clean entertainer from the start. There is a certain light handedness with which the drama is treated that allows the narrative to consistently make an impact.
The casting is pitch perfect and each character stands on it own. I liked the way the movie ended with a surprise twist to the tale. Finally the saying goes true cricket unites us in some shape and form.
Verdict - 4/5(A Nostalgic Ride)
