The first thing that flashed my mind after watching the trailer was the Hotstar classic The White Lotus show. And after watching the movie the comparison was inevitable. While TWL has a unique charm and discretion, KKK lacked finesse and it felt like forced to meet the end attempt. Yes it indeed is a welcome change and good to see new attempts are made to stay focused on the age old comedy which we have seen in late 80's. Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam came out with flying colors in that aspect, but this one did not strike the chord with me that well. I did laugh here and there but this experimental film never took off and failed to capitalize the plot and its great shady setup to its full extent.
In a recent interview, Android Kunjappan director mentioned that he wanted to try an approach usually found in international films and he also indicated the fear of acceptance from audience. Its a satirical comedy based on a hilarious incident that happened in the life of Director himself. And there are many references to films including The Shining (I still wonder why). To a great extent, the visuals and commotions were hilarious, especially i loved Jaffer Idukki interventions and few hidden political references. There were some absolutely guaranteed laugh out moments and memorable one liners in the film. From fine apple juice to one of the waiters serving food in the room etc, there are plenty of moments to enjoy. But those fun events dont last much. After a point, the banter comedy crosses the barrier and then at time if felt horrible and cringe. Some of the characters were totally ridiculous and unwanted including the psychologist. With some silly arguments especially between women, this one is a bit over-the-top and exaggerated comedy.
Grace was superb in her mood shifts while Nivin Pauly is out of shape in all aspects. Jaffer Idukki shines first and then lets us down later. I loved the way they ended it. My suggestion would be to avoid unless you have nothing else to watch.
Verdict - 2.5/5(Withers away)
