Dupahiya Series Review - A Delightful and Enigmatic Panchayat

Writer's picture: VenkiVenki

Amidst the plethora of crime thrillers and violent films / TV shows, this squeaky-clean family entertainer provides a refreshing glimpse into rural India. It channels the spirit of the beloved series Panchayat, and trust me, that's a good thing.

With its rustic setting and stellar performances, this is a feel-good, heartwarming comedy that knows exactly where its heart belongs.

Set in a fictional village of Dhadakpur in Bihar, renowned for its 25-year record of being crime-free, chaos ensues when a bike is pinched. What follows is a delightful blend of investigation and drama laced with humor occasionally veering into slapstick territory. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this show, which is filled with numerous laugh-out-loud moments. The storyline is simple yet effective.

While not perfect and unable to match the standards of Panchayat Season 1, the show includes several subplots that seem to drag, and the inevitable ending feels somewhat prolonged. However, the one-liners and dialect are well-executed for the most part. The show is clever in many ways without being preachy, and I truly liked the way the social commentary is woven into the script. The suspense keeps you guessing till the last episode, delivering a delightful surprise.

Overall in pure desi terms maza aa gaya.

Verdict - 3.5/5(A Joyride)

Loved the simplicity and the Bihari slang. Renuka Shahane seemed out of place in this rustic setting though..
