Adolescence Series Review - A Devastating Aftermath

Writer: VenkiVenki

This Netflix series ranks among the most challenging viewings I've encountered this year. This four-part British drama, filmed in a single take, centers around the arrest of a 13-year-old boy for a suspicious murder.

What ensues is an intense exploration of the underlying reasons. It deviates from the typical crime and investigation narrative. A word of caution: if you are anticipating a fast-paced thriller, you may find yourself disappointed.

The narrative delves into the harsh realities faced by today's teenagers, including aspects of upbringing and the influence of social media. It offers a complex and deeply psychological perspective on adolescence. The series is raw and honest portrayal of the struggles faced during these formative years serves as both a cautionary tale and a source of empathy. Its a powerful depiction of the devastating aftermath of teenage choices. It serves as a reminder of the importance of guidance, understanding, and compassion during one of life's most challenging phases.

The performances are exceptional. Owen Cooper, portraying Jamie Miller, undeniably stands out, particularly in episode 3, which is outstanding. The final episode showcases Stephen Graham as the father of the accused, delivering one of his finest performances.

The series is not without its flaws; at times, you may encounter awkward silences and scenes that do not align well with the story arc. Some scenes are prolonged without adding value, and certain dialogues come across as superficial and clichéd.

Ultimately, the adage holds true: "Nothing good ever comes of violence, nor ever will." The question remains whether anything can be done to prevent such crimes.

Verdict - 3.5/5(The art of growing up)
